Windows That Open, Close, and Seal Like They Should
Windows take a lot of abuse: years of opening and closing, Iowa’s freeze-thaw cycles, summer sun, wind-driven rain, and the occasional baseball or hailstorm. Over time, glass seals fail, hardware breaks, frames rot, and drafts creep in. Not every problem means you need all-new windows. Sometimes a targeted repair is all it takes.
At KRC Roofing & Siding, we start by figuring out what’s actually wrong. If a repair makes sense, we’ll fix it. If your windows are past their prime, we’ll help you choose replacement windows and install them with the airtight, watertight details that make them last.

Common Window Problems We Fix
Foggy or cloudy glass between the panes.
Cracked or broken glass.
Windows that stick, won’t stay open, or won’t lock.
Rotted or soft sills and frames.
Water leaking around the window during rain.
Broken cranks, balances, or hardware.
Damaged or missing screens.
Peeling paint or swelling wood around the window.
Window Repair Services

Glass and Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) Replacement
We replace cracked panes or foggy, failed sealed glass units without replacing the whole window, when the frame is still in good shape.

Broken Window Repair
We secure and repair windows broken by storms, impact, or accidents.

Weatherstripping and Seal Replacement
We stop drafts by replacing worn weatherstripping and resealing around the frame.

Rotted Sill and Frame Repair
We replace damaged wood sills, trim, and frame sections before rot spreads into the wall.
Window Replacement Services

Insert (Pocket) Replacement
A new window fits inside your existing frame. It’s faster and less invasive when the existing frame is solid and square.

Full-Frame Replacement
We remove the entire window down to the rough opening, repair any hidden damage, and install a new window with fresh flashing and insulation. This is the best option when frames are rotted or leaking.

Whole-Home Window Replacement
We replace every window at once for consistent style, efficiency, and a refreshed look.

Basement and Egress Windows
We replace small, drafty basement windows, and install egress windows that add safety and natural light to finished basements.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Windows?
Repair usually makes sense when:
- The frame and sash are solid, with no widespread rot.
- The problem is limited to glass, hardware, weatherstripping, or a single sill.
- The windows are relatively new or in good overall condition.
Replacement is usually the better choice when:
- Multiple windows have failed seals or are drafty.
- Frames or sills are rotted or repeatedly leaking.
- The windows are single-pane or very old.
- Repairs keep adding up year after year.
- You want better efficiency, easier cleaning, or a new look.

Window Repair and Replacement FAQs
How much does window replacement cost?
The cost depends on the number of windows, size, style, frame material, glass package, and whether it’s an insert or full-frame installation. We provide a free, itemized estimate.
Can you fix foggy windows without replacing the whole window?
Often, yes. If the frame and sash are in good condition, we can replace just the sealed glass unit. If many windows are fogging or the frames are aging, replacement may be the better value.
What's the difference between insert and full-frame replacement?
Insert replacement fits a new window inside your existing frame. It’s quicker and less invasive. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, so we can fix hidden rot and install new flashing. It’s the better choice when frames are damaged or leaking.
Why is my window leaking when it rains?
Most window leaks come from failed exterior caulk, missing or improper flashing, or water getting behind the siding above the window. We find the source and fix it, not just the symptom.
How long does window replacement take?
Most replacement windows can be installed in a few hours each, and many homes are finished in one to two days once the windows arrive.
Can windows be replaced in winter?
Yes. We replace one window at a time and seal each opening quickly, so very little heat escapes. Winter is also a great time to notice which windows are drafty.
Do you repair storm-damaged windows?
Yes. We repair or replace windows damaged by hail, wind, or debris, and can document the damage with photos for your records.
