Roof Leak Detection
A leak that keeps coming back means the source was never found. KRC Roofing & Siding tracks down hidden and recurring roof leaks, then fixes them for good.

Find the Source, Fix It Once
Roof leaks are tricky. Water can enter at one spot, travel along rafters, decking, or insulation, and show up as a stain several feet away. That’s why patching the area right above the stain often doesn’t work, and why the same leak keeps coming back.
Our leak detection service is about investigation, not guesswork. We trace the water back to where it actually enters, show you what we found, and repair the real problem.

Signs of a Hidden Roof Leak
- Water stains on ceilings or walls.
- Peeling paint or bubbling drywall.
- Musty odors in the attic or upper rooms.
- Damp or compressed insulation.
- Mold or mildew in the attic.
- Drips that appear only during certain storms or wind directions.
- A leak that returns after it was “fixed”.
How We Find Roof Leaks

Exterior Roof Inspection
We check shingles, flashing, valleys, vents, pipe boots, skylights, and chimneys for gaps and failures.

Attic Inspection
We look for water trails, stained decking, wet insulation, and daylight to trace the leak path from inside.

Water Testing
We run water over specific areas of the roof in sections to reproduce the leak and pinpoint its source.

Moisture Detection Tools
We use moisture meters and, where needed, thermal imaging to find wet areas that aren’t visible.
Is It a Leak or Condensation?
Not every wet spot is a roof leak. In Iowa winters, warm, moist air from your home can rise into a poorly ventilated attic and condense on the cold roof deck. It then drips onto insulation and ceilings, which looks just like a leak. Patching the roof won’t fix it. We check ventilation and attic conditions as part of every leak investigation, so you fix the right problem.
Leak Detection FAQs
Why can't I find where my roof is leaking?
Water often travels along rafters and decking before showing up inside, so the stain is rarely right under the leak. Professional detection traces the water back to its true entry point.
Why does my roof only leak sometimes?
Some leaks only appear during heavy rain, wind-driven rain from a specific direction, or melting snow and ice dams. We take those patterns into account when tracking down the source.
How much does leak detection cost?
It depends on your roof’s size and complexity and the testing needed. We’ll explain the cost upfront.
Do you fix the leak once you find it?
Yes. After we find the source, we’ll explain the repair and give you a clear price, so you can fix it right away.
